NewYork-Presbyterian has opened Och Spine, a new spine center at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Spiral.
NewYork-Presbyterian/The Spiral is the first spine center where patients will have access to specialists from both Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine under the same roof. Orthopedic and neurosurgical spine surgeons and other spine care specialists will be available to treat patients at the outpatient facility.
According to NewYork-Presbyterian hospital, the facility will provide patients with access to “a collaborative team of Och Spine orthopedic and neurological surgeons; neurologists; physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians; pain management specialists; radiologists; and physical therapists.” Patients will be able to receive comprehensive and coordinated spine care in one location. This includes diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and even rehabilitation.
NewYork-Presbyterian President and CEO Steven J. Corwin, M.D. explained to OTW, “With the opening of Och Spine at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Spiral, we are setting a new standard for exceptional spine care.”
Dr. Corwin continued, “Designed with the patients’ needs in mind, this beautiful state-of-the-art facility matches the world-class experts who will work side-by-side to deliver comprehensive, personalized spine care.”
Located in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards neighborhood, The Spiral is a 66-floor skyscraper developed by Tishman Speyer. The new facility occupies the entire second floor of The Spiral and, according to the press release, features “the latest technologies.”
All of this was made possible thanks to a $50 million foundational gift from the Jane and Daniel Och Family Foundation. The gift was provided to enable the expansion of the Och Spine program throughout the New York metro area.
The 50,000-square-foot facility includes “33 exam rooms, six procedure rooms, radiology suites with two MRI machines, two CT scanners, two X-ray machines, and an EOS machine, a medical imaging system that takes low-dose X-ray images of a patient’s body in a standing position to create 2D and 3D images of the skeletal system, and a 2,000-square-foot rehabilitation gym staffed by physical therapists who specialize in spine care.”
