Demetra Holding acquired 51% of GetSet Surgical, producer of sterile-packaged, single-use spine surgical kits.
Demetra Holding S.p.A. has acquired a 51% stake in GetSet Surgical, an eight-year old Swiss company that produces sterile-packaged, single-use spine surgical kits.
Demetra Holding is headquartered in Milan, Italy. According the public announcement, Demetra provides “anti-infective cements, spacers, and biomaterials for orthopedic applications” and focuses on bringing together healthcare companies. Its portfolio companies include the following: Tecres, OSARTIS, OsteoRemedies, and Yijiutai.
GetSet Surgical
GetSet’s products include the GetSet’s GoPLF!™ Posterior Lateral Fusion system. It also includes GetSet’s GoLIF!™ Lumbar Interbody Fusion system which is pending FDA 510(k) clearance. Demetra Holding expects this new investment will expedite the development of additional systems.
According to the press release, a top priority for Demetra Holding is bringing GetSet’s products to the United States market. OsteoRemedies will manage the distribution of GetSet’s products via its recently created U.S. spine division.
The acquisition announcement coincides with the appointment of Ted Bird to vice president spine commercial. In a LinkedIn post, Bird commented in part, “Now it’s time to roll up my operating sleeves and help the GetSet Surgical team launch their cutting-edge sterile-packaged spine procedure kits into the U.S. outpatient spine surgery space and collaborate with the stellar companies in the global Demetra family: Tecres, OSARTIS GmbH and OsteoRemedies, LLC to spearhead incredible advancements to minimize infection risks, optimize Hospital/ASC efficiencies, while building a comprehensive spine portfolio in the areas where the market is moving. It’s GO time!”
Demetra Holding has also indicated that it will expand GetSet Surgical’s footprint globally. The GoPLF! and GoLIF! systems are CE-marked and available for distribution in Europe and other international markets.
