Expanding on the traditional triple-taper design, Zimmer Biomet has launched the Z1™ Femoral Hip System, a design that incorporated a significant amount of surgeon feedback particularly to address the need for better tools and a broader range and variety of patient anatomies and reconstructive needs.
“Surgeons were looking for a comprehensive and versatile triple-taper femoral stem system that would be compatible with our well-established and widely used G7® Acetabular System,” explained Louis Galrao, president, Hips at Zimmer Biomet, to OTW.
“With the Z1 Femoral Hip System, we saw an opportunity to enhance the benefits of a traditional triple-taper design with expansive innovations that would provide more solutions to address a broader range of patient anatomies and reconstructive needs. In addition, the Z1 System addressed surgeon preference for streamlined and efficient instrumentation that reduces the OR footprint and resource utilization.”
“Versatility, adaptability, and convenience define the Z1 Femoral Hip System. Within a single instrumentation platform, the Z1 System offers an interchangeable selection of 13 consistently sized cementless collared and collarless stem options, as well as three neck options, including standard, high offset and coxa vara, to help restore biomechanics across a wide range of patient anatomies.”
“Like all of Zimmer Biomet’s implant systems, the Z1 System is supported by our suite of AI [artificial intelligence], robotic and mixed reality-based surgical navigation, planning and assistance technologies which are designed to improve efficiency, accuracy, customization and overall surgical outcomes for patients.”
“Our implant systems and enabling technologies complement a variety of surgical approaches and workflows, making them more accessible and approachable for surgeons and care teams.”
