Eight years old is not exactly new, but this particularly noteworthy educational conference could well be a new meeting for you.
It’s called The Orthopedic Summit Evolving Technologies or OSET and the founder is Kevin Plancher, M.D., FAAD of Plancher Orthopaedics & Sports Medicinein New York City.
For 2018, the conference is at the Bellagio in Las Vegas between December 5 and 8—yes, sorry, this week.
About 1,000 physicians, nurses, athletic trainers and affiliated healthcare providers are expected to attend. Which means that roughly 50,000 of you have not attended yet.
What Makes OSET Different?
Three things:
- Scope: Only American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) covers as much as OSET does. The meeting tackles current topics in Spine, Knee Repair, Hip Arthroplasty, Sports Medicine, Foot & Ankle, Hand & Wrist, Shoulders, Biologics, Robotics and more.
- Debates and Case Studies: Debates are an outstanding way to learn. OSET and Current Concepts in Joint Replacement (CCJR) are two meetings that specialize in Oxford University style of debates. They are entertaining and, frankly, teach much better than a 5-minute podium case report. A lot rests on faculty quality, of course, and whether (or not) the organizers encourage verbal combat. OSET (like CCJR) delivers on both counts.
- Topics and Faculty: Below we will amaze you, we think, with a handful of the topics scheduled for this year’s OSET in Vegas. As to the faculty, it took nine pages to list them all in the OSET’s program and it reads like a mini-AAOS.
